Dr Irene Polycarpou is an Associate Professor in Medical Physics at European University Cyprus. She attained MSc and PhD from King's College London and she undertook postdoctoral research at St Thomas' Hospital London.

Expert in medical imaging. Research interests include enhancement of the diagnostic value of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). She was involved in the development of simulated 4D PET-MRI datasets that can be used freely by academia and industry for any scientific investigation. She has participated in several projects including “FP7 EU project, Sublima, PET-MR combined for maximal efficiency”, “FP7 EU project, HYPERimage, Hybrid PET/MR” and projects funded by the Research Promotion foundation.
